Infekcje Iridovirus gourami - DGIV - Zbigniew Hudobski
In Nature Aquarium, a layout is created by arranging rocks and driftwood and planting aquatic plants in a tank. However, the layout is not finished with this. An aquascape is complete only when aquatic plants are grown well. It takes a few weeks to a few months from the time that a layout is put together until a beautiful aquascape is finished. The fun of Nature Aquarium is in maintaining an aquascape thereafter for a year to a few years. Unabridged article
Beckett's water trumpet – aquarium hobby old-timer - prof. Stefan Kornobis
First specimens of the Beckett’s water trumpet were collected by T. W. N. Beckett in Ceylon that used to be the British colony at that time. Beckett handed the plants to the Paradeniya botanic garden. English botanic H. Trimen was the garden’s manager then and he described the plant in 1885 as a new species: Cryptocoryne beckettii. However the largest living species of lizards have already been known to the sailors ages ago, they have been scientifically described not sooner than at the beginning of 20th century. Most probably the remoteness and unfavourable location of the islands as well as the bad reputation of reptiles living on the islands, discouraged the natural scientists and researchers to take up the issue. The old nautical maps depicting the south-eastern Asia islands inhabited by these reptiles were marked with a warning: „here be dragons”. It’s very probable that thanks to their yellow, long and forked tongues as well as their predatory behaviour they became a model for the legendary dragons that emit fire from their mouths. This article is mainly addressed to the readers that start to get interested in marine life. That’s how the fascination begins. I also intend to reach people that have not yet decided if they’d want to “salt” the water in their aquarium, hobbyists that have already been introduced to the marine aquarium hobby but at the very beginning got discouraged by the opinions such as “there’s no sense to start it at all unless you have minimum 2 PhDs in biology and chemistry” or “marine aquarium costs minimum 20 thousand zlotys”. During the process of distillation water is heated as long as it starts to boil and the vapour achieved in the result is condensed and collected. Depending on the distiller type the water you produce may have an electrical conductance of ca. 1 μS/cm. Directly after distillation it is sterile but without proper equipment and storage methods it looses sterility. Distillation is a slow process so it forces collecting and storage of water that is to be used later on. Unless it is properly secured, volatile substances (carbon dioxide, ammonium and various organic substances) will dissolve in it and pollute it again. Unless the storage container is made of neutral material, ions and plasticizers will get washed out of the container and will pollute water. Unabridged article
The cichlid - a queen of the freshwater aquarium hobby. Why is it worth to keep cichlids? - Radosław Bednarczuk;
The magic of cichlids lies not only in their vast diversity resulting from the variety of their shapes, colour variations and sizes but also – or maybe I should rather say first and foremost – from their extremely interesting breeding and social behaviour. That’s what cichlids are... and I surely hope that after reading this article no-one will have to be further encouraged to keep these wonderful fish. Unabridged articleSources of infections and prophylaxis of aquarium fish diseases - prof. dr hab. Jerzy Antychowicz;
Learning about the qualities of pathogenic factors, their origins and means of transmission are indispensable prerequisites of proper prophylaxis, that is preventing fish diseases. Viruses, aquatic fungi, bacteria and other parasites are most often associated with pathogenic (etiologic) factors. Unabridged article
