Gasterosteus aculeatus - Hubert Zientek
Threespine stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus) belongs to Gasterosteidae family. This extremely interesting fish is commonly found in our domestic water basins. It’s not a protected species and it perfectly fits coldwater aquaria. An experienced aquarium hobbyist will easily manage to spawn the fish.

Pantherophis emoryi - Piotr Piliczewski

Apart from the very popular species from Pantherophis genus our terraria hold some less popular, yet interesting and untroublesome snakes as well. The corn snake (Pantherophis emoryi) is one of these underappreciated animals. The snake’s appearance is inconspicuous but the species is easy to keep in a terrarium. It grows up to 100-120 cm in length, weighs up to 300-400 g and that makes the species perfect for small, home terraria. Even inexperienced terrarium hobbyists may give the species a try.

Stress
in turtles breeding - Wojciech Urynowicz

Stress is an extremely important factor in numerous animals’ lives. In their natural habitat animals have to take care of, among others, an appropriate shelter, amount of food and access to water. Some reptile keepers claim the terrarium to be a place free of any stress – and that is wrong. The article is intended to acquaint all turtle fanciers and keepers with all the stressful situations animals may be subject to in a terrarium.

Julidochromis dickfeldi Staeck, 1975 - Marek Winiarski

Just like shell dwellers Julidochromis is a good example of fish that perfectly fits small tanks inhabited by other fish originating form this kind of a biotope.

Orconectes limosus - Maksymilian Przybylski
Orconectes limosus is native to South America – specimen found in this region grow as big as 12 cm in length, while their European counterparts rarely grow longer than 8 cm. First specimens were brought to Europe ca. 1890. Unfortunately the crayfish species soon became a real plague. It is found practically in every inland water basin in Poland, with exception of the mountain area and the foothills.  The spinycheek crayfish is a resistant species and may easily be kept in home aquarium.

Altolamprologus sp. "compressiceps Shell” - Jakub Celej
Altolamprologus sp. „compressiceps Shell” is a very interesting and unquestionably beautiful fish. This cichlid belongs to Altolamprologus genus and is endemic to the Lake Tanganyika. Fish from this species are the smallest ones as compared to other fish in their genus: males grow to reach ca. 5-6 cm in length and females are smaller by more or less 2 cm. The species is known to be a shell dweller as it raises its offspring in shells. It’s not too popular for now but probably it will soon be found in our aquaria with other Tanganyikan species of shell-dwelling cichlids..
