Enneacanthus chaetodon - Maksymilian Przybylski
For all these years North America still remains an unknown land for the aquarium hobbyists from Europe. We present one of the smallest predators of the North American waters – Enneacanthus chaetodon. The fish usually doesn’t grow larger than 10 cm long. Its body is thickset and tall. 4 to 5 dark stripes are to be seen on its body sides. Blackbanded sunfish is a fish for experienced aquarium hobbyists, and preparing a tank for this species requires a lot of preparations.

Aquarium hobbyists have a possibility to observe proliferation in numerous fish species in their tanks. Parental care observed in some of the species is its most spectacular aspect that triggers specific emotions. Despite the fact that most fish species don’t take care of their offspring, the cases of a male, a female or both parents taking care of their fry have been observed. Such behavioural pattern is most often associated with Cichlidae family. However, parents taking care of their offspring are to be found among many other fish species. The article’s authors try to explain how parental care in fish evolved.
Macroalgae - Paweł Korzec
Marine tanks are home for numerous beautiful fish, crayfish, shrimps and corals. Nevertheless, there is a group of organisms that remains underestimated – macroalgae. From the aquarium hobbyist’s point of view some of green algae (Chlorophyta), brown algae (Phaeophyta) red algae (Rhodophyta) are interesting. The article describes selected species that may be found in aquaria. Author describes how to take care of them and how to avoid threats they may possibly pose.

Nematolebias whitei is a typical representative of Rivulidae family. The fish occurs in temporary polls in Brazil, is a substrate spawner and lays eggs in a mud. The article is devoted to the methods of spawning this exceptionally interesting fish in a tank. Very rarely aquarium hobbyists have to do with a species in which fry is subject to the diapause and may be stored out of water.

All snakes that are known of, are predators, but they have their own enemies as well. Author describes threats the Nature poses to snakes – dangers in form of the animals from different taxons and environmental regions inhabited by these reptiles. Moreover he describes perils associated with the most dangerous predator of all times – human.
Exotarium in Lublin - Bartłomiej Gorzkowski
Exotarium in Lublin is an essential part of the animal shelter and has been operating for 1,5 years now. It becomes a home for various animals – tiny scorpions, tarantulas, a variety of lizards, frogs, turtles and numerous species of snakes (including huge Indian pythons and regal pythons). These animals are refugees from reptile farms, unwanted live gifts, “live toys”, animals that got sick and started to cause trouble or animals whose requirements exceeded their owners’ abilities – there’s no general rule for all the cases. Nevertheless, they have one thing in common: a vast majority of them is in a critical state. If it wasn’t for the voluntaries’ commitment and veterinarians’ hard work, they wouldn’t be saved.

The article discusses issues of keeping American cichlids. Abundant species and – what follows – various behavioural patterns and body sizes in these fish makes them both an unfailing source of aquarium hobby inspiration as well as the cause of numerous problems you have to solve, if you want to set a proper tank for these fish and take care of them in a correct way. Based on his own experience, the author tries to find an answer to the most important questions – like the tank size.

The article’s author describes the examples of poses the males of Xiphophorus helleri adopt when courting females and well as behavioural patters in males in the above mentioned situation. Similarly as in case of male fights, you may witness many interesting behaviours typical for courtship in a tank. It may happen that these behavioural patterns are found exclusively in aquaria and have not been observed in Nature at all.

Course covering basics of aquarium and terrarium hobby relation - Wojciech Górecki
The first edition of the course covering basics of aquarium and terrarium hobby, addressed to hobbyists and employees of the pet branch companies finished. The course covered fifty hours and lasted from the end of February till the end of March. More than twenty people took part in it. Lecturers’ scope of knowledge appeared to be very interesting for the participants.
