121_copyDiscoveries in Goa & Karnataka. Part 2 - Heiko Bleher
In the vicinity of the great water dam Haligri (known as Kelageri as well) a road crosses a tiny creek that apparently flows into the reservoir.  It was my fifteenth netting location. When I was walking upstream in the slowly flowing, cloudy water with a rocky substrate two boys approached me and insisted on catching some fish for me. They caught several specimen of Devario aequipinnatus, Nemacheilus denisonii, Rasbora aff. daniconius (I’m positive that more than one, so far not described, species are being classified under this name). Later on, by the stream banks, I managed to net several species I haven’t met before during this journey – for example Puntius melanostigma (for some it’s a synonym for Puntius mahecola, despite the fact that they are two separate barb species. In 1876 Day described P. melanostigma found in the region of Wynaad Hills in Kerala and this fish has nothing to do with P. mahecola from Mahé described by Valenciennes in 1844). I found P. pookodensis for the first time. I came across P. bimaculatus there as well.

Enneacanthus chaetodon - Maksymilian Przybylski
For all these years North America still remains an unknown land for the aquarium hobbyists from Europe. We present one of the smallest predators of the North American waters – Enneacanthus chaetodon. The fish usually doesn’t grow larger than 10 cm long. Its body is thickset and tall. 4 to 5 dark stripes are to be seen on its body sides. Blackbanded sunfish is a fish for experienced aquarium hobbyists, and preparing a tank for this species requires a lot of preparations.

Fishes Parents Cares - dr inż. Aleksandra Kwaśniak-Płacheta (Tropical), Dr Dariusz Danel (Zakład Antropologii PAN)
Aquarium hobbyists have a possibility to observe proliferation in numerous fish species in their tanks. Parental care observed in some of the species is its most spectacular aspect that triggers specific emotions. Despite the fact that most fish species don’t take care of their offspring, the cases of a male, a female or both parents taking care of their fry have been observed. Such behavioural pattern is most often associated with Cichlidae family. However, parents taking care of their offspring are to be found among many other fish species. The article’s authors try to explain how parental care in fish evolved.

Macroalgae - Paweł Korzec
Marine tanks are home for numerous beautiful fish, crayfish, shrimps and corals. Nevertheless, there is a group of organisms that remains underestimated – macroalgae. From the aquarium hobbyist’s point of view some of green algae (Chlorophyta), brown algae (Phaeophyta) red algae (Rhodophyta) are interesting. The article describes selected species that may be found in aquaria. Author describes how to take care of them and how to avoid threats they may possibly pose.
