NANO - Chris Lukhaup
A new trend seized the aquarium hobby: nano aquaria. Miniature aquaria, which were in Europe usually regarded as pitiable just a few years ago, have already became commonly present both in pet shops and in aquarium hobbyists’ homes. These tiny trinkets are particularly popular among young hobbyists. Many beginners in the hobby got fascinated by the concept as well. In principle, they are nothing new. In Asia small tanks have been sold for many years already. However, it took some time before the miniatures gained the European hobbyists’ recognition. High energy costs, commonness of the one-person households, no time for hobbies and room shortage – certainly all this has significantly contributed to the fact that currently small tanks are selling like hot cakes.;

How to breed swordtails and platies? - Andrzej Sieniawski
In case of swordtails and platies an aquarium hobbyist has to do virtually nothing in order to produce a fry. (...) The tank in which fish are to be born has to be planted so that the newly born fish have a retreat in which they could hide from their mother. During the delivery the egg’s coat that encases fry breaks apart. You can often observe the female that gives birth to a young fish and devours an empty egg’s coat in turns.
Nature Aquarium - Takashi Amano
In Nature Aquarium, a layout is created by arranging rocks and driftwood and planting aquatic plants in a tank. However, the layout is not finished with this. An aquascape is complete only when aquatic plants are grown well. It takes a few weeks to a few months from the time that a layout is put together until a beautiful aquascape is finished. The fun of Nature Aquarium is in maintaining an aquascape thereafter for a year to a few years.
Besides Nature Aquarium, in any aquarium where aquatic organisms are kept, the proliferation of algae can become a problem. In the case of an aquatic plant layout, algae often presents a problem soon after the layout is set up and the water quality is unstable. If the leaves of aquatic plants become covered with algae, the plants cannot photosynthesize sufficiently and weaken gradually. Therefore algae must be removed as soon as possible. As for the method to remove algae, algae can be removed by manual removal or through the use of herbivores. Phyton-Git can be used for the removal of blue green algae. As a general rule, various methods are used in combination depending on the type of algae and the tank condition.
Aquarium fish only - Piotr Stępień
More and more often marine aquaria decorate our homes, offices, restaurants, hotels and many other places in which we spend time. They add to the place’s charm and ambience. If you want to maintain this small ecosystem’s equilibrium but you want to spend minimum amount of time on it – as the time is currently a luxury good for most of us – you should consider setting a fish only tank. Such a tank encompasses nothing but fish – you have an opportunity to admire their beauty and unusual behavioural patterns. (...) It’s safe to claim that maintaining a fish only tank is much easier than in case of reef tank. .
Geophagus - Radosław Bednarczuk
I can safely claim that species belonging to the Geophagus genus are the most popular eartheaters kept in hobbyists’ aquaria. The popularity is due to numerous reasons. Firstly, these fish are easy to keep and breed, while their coloration may compete with the coloration of many cichlids found in Great African Lakes. Secondly, specimen of the majority of the species offered by the dealers are not longer than a dozen or so centimetres and due to that aquarium hobbyists possessing smaller tanks pick these fish eagerly. The advantages mentioned above make the fish a perfect home tank inhabitant for any cichlid fancier.

Breeding Red Nose shrimps (Caridina gracilirostris) – Dominik Perkowski
Beautiful shrimps that swim in a tank majestically. Shrimps incomparable to any other species, characterised by an astonishing coloration and behaviour. As it came to breeding the species all we knew was that they need marine water in order to breed. The gestation period the larvae undergo in nature was successfully mimicked in a home tank. The adventure, breeding conditions, salt content and larvae feeding will be described in the next issue of Nasze Akwarium.
