Rock background in the aquarium - building a DIY rock background in  the aquari - Romuald Jagodziński;
„It all started with Back To Nature backgrounds -...” This is how the story of expansion of aquarists’ interest   in building DIY backgrounds imitating lake Malawi and Tanganyika biotopes. When keeping cichlids of Mbuna group, naturally living inlake Malawiit is best to imitate their natural biotope by building high rock formations – whether in the form of structural background or rocks cut to the appropriate height, placed in the background part of the tank.  Such formations imitate the conditions  of the  natural habitat those fish live in. However, before adding any rocks to the tank it is best to draw out a plan and plot out a background layout. Because a background of this type offers numerous possibilities and allows for flexibility,  many ill prepared aquarists who didn’t thought it out and improvised, found  themselves in difficulties .

Visiting Stendker brothers. - Artur Borowski, Robert Kazmierczak;
Discus fish – for many aquarists - both for the beginners and experienced hobbyists - an object of yearning and a fish of  dreams of,. What is it about them that fascinates us so much? Is it their beauty,  majestic shape,  beautiful colouration, or just our need to face the challenge of keeping the fish that is generally reagrded as problematic? Diskuszucht Stendker is a huge  fish hatchery of many years standing. The company has already won many awards at prestigious exhibitions. It offers wide variety of discus fish, both in color and size.

„House of the Sea” in Vienna - David Jopek;
„House of the Sea” is located in the vicinity  of the U3 underground Neubaugasse station. This very interesting public aquarium located in the centre of Vienna (right by the Marianhilferstrasse), inan old bunker from Second World War. . The facility houses a surprising  number of marine tanks housing octopi, spiny lobsters, jellyfish, seahorses, morays,
Sharks, a variety of corals etc. It  was interesting  to look upwards  and see through  the transparent ceiling - freshwater rays and other fish swim in a “tropical river” above your head.  If you look  yet a bit higher, you can see, despite the mass of water, birds  flying through the air.

We are buddies for almost two years now - Sławomir Siudakiewicz;
The article describes an animalwhich has a potential for being more then  just an aquarium fish.  Due to the fact that “Nasze Aquarium”  recently issued a lot of information about pufferfish, I do not intend to duplicate those data here. I will focus on personal experience with  Nile pufferfish.

Phyllopods - dr hab. inż. Roman Kujawa, prof. UWM;
Nauplii of brine shrimp , with which  aquarists are well acquainted, are artemia in an early developmental stage. They are an excellent and  convenient food for freshwater  or even marine fish  fry. Below you will find more on biology of species  closely related to artemia and living in our inland freshwater  basins: Siphonophanes grubei, Branchipus schaefferi, Triops cancriformis, Lepidurus apus.

Effect of temperature on sexual orientation  in fish. - Piotr Łapa;
Scientific publications discussed  the issue of global warming  already decades ago. This is no longer a purely academic issue as media has involved all of us in it. Among the forecasted consequences of global warming there’s an interesteing phenomenon – a possible warming’s effect on demographic structure of the species in which sex determination is temperature dependent. Are the negative effects of climate change on fish population unavoidable?

Review of tarantula and scorpion species. Part VII Giants amongst dwarfs. -  Sebastian Żmudzki;
(...) Of the animals inhabiting Earth the most magnificent ones always attracted most interest. 20 cm long stick insects, giant cockroaches and scorpions are kept in terrariums. Tarantulas have not been forgotten. The largest ones are still very much in demand. In this article I would like to focus on those species  for the benefit of those who want to breed them. I intend to explain how   to provide those animals the best conditions possible. Theraphosa blondi is a record holder amongst spiders – no bigger arachnid has ever been described. The second in size, though not by much, is Lasiodora parahybana from the same part of the world.

Viral infections - Łukasz Kiepas;
(...) Infections  are caused by many factors, although it seems the most important of these is exposure of the animal to a virus. Amongst hundreds of classified viruses causing diseases in humans there must be ones that cause infections in animals as well.  Infection develops over a period of a few days after exposure to a virus. The signs are not apparent at first, but the animal becomes lethargic, inactive and behaves abnormally. Their level of activity  declines and they tend to stay in one place.

The twenty best advised plant species for  a garden pond. - Hubert Zientek;
In this article consisting of two parts I will present 20 plant species most suitable (in my opinion) for  a garden pond. On one hand they fulfill important functions in the pond
ecosystem, on the other hand they are  extremely attractive and easy to look after. Some  of them are even capable of surviving winter in our climate .  The first ten species are:
Nymphaea, common mare's tail (Hippuris vulgaris),  Menyanthes trifoliata, Stratiotes aloides,  (Eichhornia crassipes), Pistia stratiotes, rigid hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum) , parrot feather (Myriophyllum aquaticum) , Potamogeton lucens.

Bandit cichlids (Guianacara geayi)
- Radosław Bednarczuk;
(...) Unfortunately these fish are not one of the most  popular cichlids in amateur aquaria.Their spectacular courtship and  interesting breeding strategy is one of the assets of keeping the species . The name Guianacara  is derived from the area of distribution of these cichlids,  Guyana, whereas “acara” is a name given to them in Indian dialect Tupi. Their natural biotope is south-east part of South America, including Venezuela, French Guyana and tributaries of Rio Branco.
